Monica, Active Grandmother

I see a difference in my energy level since I’ve been working out consistently.
— Monica, 68

I first met Monica in our neighbourhood when I offered to help with her grocery bags. She politely declined, saying she enjoyed her exercise walking to the grocery store and back. I felt an immediate connection to her, and we’ve stayed close ever since.

“Seeing my daughter and her young children making swimming, gymnastics and physical activity a priority definitely inspired me to get going,” she says. “When they visited last summer, they taped a workout routine to the fridge and told me I had to follow it!”

“I make physical activity a daily part of my routine. I work out three times a week with a trainer, and get out for a walk every day. My grandchildren have gotten me to try a few other things, like Zumba and cardio kickboxing. We have a lot of laughs trying new things!”

“I became more active during the pandemic because I was mindful of being stuck at home.”
